Vote debutants utilize right of suffrage thru Voters Education, Registration Fair


Exercising the right to vote, MSUans, especially the first-time voters, gathered as they took part in the 'Voters Education and Registration Fair' led by the Commission on Elections in partnership with SSC, Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Human Rights Society, March 13.


The aforementioned event aims to promote the right of suffrage, and have safe and secured voting for the people.


Two of those participants were Chrislyne Shakira Mendoza and Maria Trixielyn Urbano, both Senior High School students, shared their thoughts as for them, the event was a convenience.


"Convenient naman gud siya since like gitagaan na ta ug privilege nga maka register dri palang kaysa magadto sa COMELEC," Urbano stressed.


"Ang student mostly, mas naga dig-in naman gud sila ug information kung ano yung tama and anong mas mabuti for us, " Mendoza added.



On the other hand, in an interview with Sarah Jane Asis, an information officer at the COMELEC and the guest speaker of the said event, stating that the right of suffrage is very sacred as it is crafted not only by the law but the people as well.


"Yung authority, binigay natin sa sarili natin. Tayo ang nagde-decide kung paano tayo i-govern through the people we elect into office. Ultimately, the decision is ours," she addressed.


Moreover, Asis stressed that it is important to choose a candidate according to their ability and the responsibility which they possessed.


Meanwhile, Chancellor JD Usman D. Aragasi noted that the institution will continue to do collaborations with the government areas to bolster students' educational experience.


"The university will not stop in working hard in collaborating with other government agencies for your comfortability and reinforce your learning journey," the chancellor emphasized.


He also advised the young voters to not be corrupted when it comes to election and should provide rubrics when voting a certain candidate.


The said registration is open until September 30, except in the Holy Week, which is slated at March 28-30.
