In commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 78th anniversary of the United Nations (UN), students, faculty, and staff, gathered together at the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) lobby to witness the opening of a special exhibit to the public, October 23.

The United Nations Expo 2023 was unveiled to the public today after a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the representative of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA), Dr. Marissa Dela Cruz, together with the Dean of the CSSH, Dr. Carmela Gonzales-Ong, and Chairman of the Department of History, Prof. Cris Hannibal Non.

According to Jenelyn Grayn, president of the History Students Society (HSS), the event aims to raise awareness about the various contributions of the UN to countries all over the world by showcasing them in an exhibit.

“It is a showcase of mga nai-share ng United Nations sa countries, mga contributions nila, and also to raise awareness pud to the students of MSU that we are celebrating the United Nations,” she remarked.

Each exhibit’s content is composed of a state’s background, the contribution of the UN to the country, political information, the flag, geographic location, and pictures.

Aside from highlighting the contributions of the UN, Grayn also said that the event is meant to help educate students of MSU on current social issues surrounding the world such as the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“May mga students pa talaga na hindi pa alam masyado ang nangyayari sa Israel and Palestine. With this, I hope mas maka-spread siya ng awareness na maka-give siya ng compassion and another perspective sa mga social issues hindi lang sa Philippines, kung ‘di sa other countries pa na members din ng United Nations,” she remarked.

The event, with the theme “Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All”, was organized in collaboration with the Office of the International Affairs (OIA), the Supreme Student Council (SSC), the History Department, the Political Science Department, History Students Society (HSS), and Political Science Students’ Organization (PSSO).

The exhibit will be displayed at the CSSH lobby until October 27, 2023.
