Tycoons abolish twice-to-beat advantage of Reapers, capture historic inaugural championship for men's beach volleyball via 2-0 finish

In a thrilling do-or-die match, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy Tycoons defied all odds, overcoming the College of Agriculture Reapers' twice-to-beat advantage to claim a stunning 2-0 victory and secure the inaugural beach volleyball championship at the University Beach Volleyball Court, October 11.

By keeping their Cinderella run alive, Tycoons’ star duo, Arsahud Binago and Jaspher Marl Lamoste, edged out the Reapers' pair, Calvin Josh Selvido and Kenneth Brillo, in a nail-biting first game, escaping with a 38-36 victory. Determined to close out the series, the hard-nosed CBAA tandem swept COA in straight sets in their second meeting, prevailing with set scores of 21-16 and 21-15.

Ahead of the finals, the Tycoons' ace player, Binago, emphasized that their goal was not merely to compete but to claim the inaugural beach volleyball championship. His statement followed the team’s three consecutive victories, which secured their survival and set up the ultimate showdown against the Reapers.

Fueled steadfast determination and ceaseless effort, the CBAA Tycoons launched their quest for gold, unleashing a barrage of powerful spikes against a fiercely competitive COA team. In a heart-stopping battle, the Tycoons emerged victorious with a narrow 38-36 win, setting the stage for the final two sets that would ultimately decide the fate of both teams in the tournament.

Continuing their momentum into the final game, the Tycoons secured a 21-16 victory in the first set, showcasing an impressive setup by Lamoste that allowed his teammates to launch effective offensive attacks. Meanwhile, the COA faced a significant setback when Calvin Josh Selvido suffered an injury during the match, and the narrative remained consistent in the second set as CBAA maintained their momentum and triumphed over the Reapers with a 21-15 brink.

Right after earning the inaugural gold medal in men's beach volleyball, Arsahud Binago stated, "Parang sinasabi nilang underdog ang College [of Business Administration and Accountancy], pero hindi [ito] naging hindrance sa amin; parang naging fuel pa para mas maging eager kami at para ma-trigger yung burning passion namin." He emphasized their goal of establishing a household name for this event, underscoring the team's determination to overcome expectations and prove their worth on the court.

With this historic win, the Tycoons solidified their place among the elite in this newly added event, significantly boosting their team’s morale and uplifting the spirits of fellow athletes at their college. This victory not only highlighted their dedication and skill but also inspired a sense of pride within the entire college community, setting a precedent for future success in beach volleyball.
