Seeing their golden dreams fade to a bronze, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) Tycoons, absorbed a gritty 2-1 beatdown at the hands of the College of Social Science and Humanities (CSSH) Vanguards in Women’s Table Tennis at the Office of Student Affairs Court, October 7.
In a massive bounce-back effort from a disappointing start, Vanguards’ Doubles bet Joliza Rosanto and Michaella Bagnol and Singles B contender Raya Dagohoy avenged their initial Singles A annihilation to claim a spot in the championship playoffs against unbeaten College of Engineering (COE) ASTEEGS.
Despite leading by two sets to none, Vanguards’ Singles A player Daisy Ann Garay lost momentum on the following three sets, and succumbed to a 3-2 opener whipping from Tycoons’ Kristel Mae Eduave.
Just when all hope seemed lost for CSSH after Garay’s loss and sluggish Doubles B opening, Vanguard’s duo Rosanto and Bagnol came through in the clutch late in the game to a decisive 3-1 pullaway over CBAA’s Grykka Jam Pabustan and Eden Barbiel Umadhay, giving them one more chance at redemption.
In the Singles B Deciding Match, Tycoons’ Honey Depalas was off to a great start with a 1-set lead halfway through. However, eager for a shot at the gold, Vanguards’ Dagohoy managed to overturn their deficit claiming a thrilling come-from-behind win in the remaining two sets, securing at least a silver in the tournament.
Meanwhile, on the Men’s Table Tennis Match, ASTEEGS hacked a clean 2-0 rout against the College of Fisheries, advancing to the Championships alongside their women’s team.
