TrabaHOW Campaign overcomes speaker hurdles, plans third and second installments

Despite last-minute speakership emergency changes, the TrabaHOW Campaign successfully culminated its first workplace symposium for all graduating students of this academic year 2023-2024 at the KCC Convention Center last April 24.

With its theme: "Gearing Iskolars Towards Their Futures in the Workplace", the campaign focused on discussing the transition of a person's college life to the world of the workplace, employability skills, and technical writing.

The event, organized by the Seniors Club of Batch Naraniag 2023-2024, will unfold across three installments.

SPEAKERSHIP CHALLENGES

Initially, the campaign invited two keynote speakers: Leomer P. Villareal, CHRP, to discuss career preparedness and Atty. Mary Peal P. Lacay, Officer IV of Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) - GSC, to address technical writing skills. However, both speakers became unavailable due to personal emergencies.

Princess Joannha Isla, the Seniors Club President, mentioned that these abrupt changes were a major setback for the campaign's success.

"Naa mi problem na na-encounter, kay ang speaker supposedly [Atty. Lacay] kay na-hospitalize, so wala nami speaker. Then, naa pud silay representative na gi-hatag pero nag-cancel pud siya," Isla said.

However, the campaign was still successful after Hania-Persia F. Usman, RPM, and University Guidance Coordinator; and Benjo Emmanuel T. Sargado, LPT, substituted the initial speakers for the event.

"So, sir Benjo [and Ma'am Persia] was the last-minute bunot, and I'm grateful that fruitful jud ang campaign - with Ma'am Persia and Sir Benjo. Daghan na-learn ang graduating students. Personally, magamit jud nako ilang gipang-talk." Isla expressed.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

Usman discussed topics regarding the challenges of adulthood, such as dealing with the shift in mental focus on finding a new job and new burdens to face as a transitioning student to a worker.

Meanwhile, Sargado lectured about the basics of technical writing and impromptu speaking formats which will be useful in future workplace interviews of the graduating students.

After both of their discussions, the campaign had mini trivia sessions and a question-and-answer forum for student engagement.

Usman mentioned that the guidance office is offering free career counseling during their office hours to all students.

FUTURE PLANS

Isla announced that the TrabaHOW series will have three 'episodes', with the second and third scheduled for the fourth week of May 2024, continuing at the KCC Convention Center.

"Gina-target namo is May 15, pero very early siya for me kay bag-o lang baya [nahuman] karon ang event. So, murag May katapusan [fourth week of May]; same venue [KCC Convention Center], dito pa rin," Isla said.

The second episode of the campaign will center on job coaching, techniques for presenting oneself to companies, and a mock interview session.

"[It will be on] how to sell yourself more sa mga companies, and didto naa na ju'y mock interview na mahitabo," Isla revealed.

The third episode will feature an admin-led 'job fair', organized by the Guidance Office and Office of the Chancellor, set for July 2024. This event will host external companies seeking new employees from the graduating class of Batch Naraniag 2023-2024.
