SSC holds filmmaking workshop; Baculio highlights importance of film prod

VOICE OUT, PURPOSE IN. SSC Committee on Students' Rights and Welfare Jaysan Phillip Castro deliver his speech during the conduct of VacSINEation Training and Workshop on filmmaking and COVID-19 Awareness, January 14.

The Supreme Student Council of Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC) conducted a filmmaking workshop today in line with "Project VacSINEation" as an entry to the KaBayanihan Youth Challenge 2022 with the theme "Developing Talents; Promoting Awareness".

The workshop was attended by seven colleges, including the Senior High School Department, to win the challenge and serve as a ticket to the national level of the competition.

The filmmaking contest will be used as a platform to encourage students and vulnerable communities, such as teenagers, senior citizens, and indigenous people, to have their COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots.

This 10-minute film will have a block screening the same day as the General Assembly of the SSC at university quadrangle to prioritize MSUans for film viewing.

Filmmaking importance highlighted

According to Dr. Clyde Cyril Baculio, RN, one of the speakers during the program, the films that the students are going to create will have an impact on the audiences. "The film you are going to make will affect the lives of many," he said.

He also emphasized the importance of genuine compassion, where participants should target the hearts of the viewers. "Here your main goal is everybody, as I emphasized, the film should pinch the heart of every viewer, and personally, for me, there should be a storyline that will pinch that one person," Baculio added.

He also stated that making films cannot please everybody, but the most important thing is that someone is impacted by the craft.

The film will be posted online the same day after film viewing, so participation by every student from different colleges, including outside participants, is encouraged in the reaction battle as it serves as 5% of the criteria for judging.
