GENERAL SANTOS CITY, March 1 – Senator Risa Hontiveros reiterated her commitment in uplifting the working conditions of government workers during the inauguration of a newly-built faculty lounge of the Mindanao State University (MSU) General Santos.
The legislator also inducted into office the new set of officers of the MSU General Santos faculty union.
Hontiveros, a long time advocate of public sector unions, said she is always eager to listen to new ideas and concerns and work with the workers in efforts to uplift their well-being.
She said her support continues for the faculty and students, university officers and workers of MSU-General Santos.
Addressing MSU faculty, students and workers, Hontiveros said she is hoping the facility will serve as a holistic space that addresses the various needs of faculty members and students in the days to come.
Part of that, she explained, is securing the physical, mental and emotional welfare of the faculty members and students.
“Yan po ang dahilan kung bakit sinuportahan at pinondohan ang pagtatayo ng MSU-Gensan faculty lounge,” the senator emphasized.
In his remarks during the occasion, Dr. Mario J. Aguja, the MSU - General Santos faculty regent, explained that the lounge serves as a safe and peaceful working space for faculty members.
The lounge was named Gumne Kalinaw wherein Gumne is a Blaan word for peace according to Aguja.
“Ito po ay para sa ating mga faculty members, pwede magcheck ng papel, pwedeng magpahinga, pwedeng maligo, pwedeng matulog sa lugar na ito,” he said.
