SDO emphasizes safe conduct of Intramurals 2024

The Sports Development Office (SDO) held a meeting with team captains, college presidents, and sports coordinators to highlight the importance of ensuring the safe conduct of the Intramurals 2024, October 8.

The meeting reiterated the general rules, suspensions, sanctions and guidelines for filing protests during sports events.

SDO Director Prof. Sammielyn Lavente shared the six core values of sports—Respect, Fun, Honesty, Professionalism, Passion, and Community—with athletes and leaders, reminding them of the primary purpose of holding these events.

Prof. Maychelou Castillo, also gave reminders about maintaining sportsmanship and the proper attitude as athletes.

"Control your temper. If you have a complaint, approach the referee wisely. Don’t let your emotions take over. Your responsibility is to stay within the rules. We know you're fighting for pride and honor, but don't forget the expected behavior of an athlete," Castillo advised.

They also noted the possible suspensions for violations and urged athletes to avoid incidents like fistfights and alcohol consumption, as outlined in the guidelines already provided to each college.

The short meeting reinforced the significance of sports while instilling a deeper grasp of sportsmanship among students, preparing them to embody these values in the upcoming events.
