Repeating stories are repeating wins

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

I couldn’t fathom how I should feel after shading that last number in the examination. The emotions of terror, excitement, sadness, and freedom had swiftly surged in as I handed my testing paper to the proctor and left the room while thinking that I would possibly be entering a hellhole. Though I wasn’t really sure of my answers, I had no choice but to desperately hope to pass the exam. Wala eh, MSU was only the option I had.

And things happened as I expected them to be. I passed the exam, was able to clinch the cut-off score of my dream program, and finally enrolled myself in.

Since the SASE, there were no days that I would not have second thoughts about the choices I plumped for. If it hadn’t been for my parents’ request and our state of life, I would have gone to other universities out of our town. But I knew MSU was still an optimal university as what the statistics were proving—producing top-notchers and actual harbingers of intellect and power. As a typical iskolar ng bayan, these were also my goals—to get my degree with flying colors and have my name on a tarpaulin printed because of my exemplary performance in the boards. But again, I asked myself, at what cost would this get me in this university?

“Oy! Juan! Candidate na gid ta for graduating students! Yogs makahawa na jud ta diri sa H!” My friend yelled at me with so much surprise and happiness, and I found myself recalling the SASE moments, sleepless nights, the amount of tanduay light that has been put inside my body, the casa mia shenanigans, all the while I stare at my report of grades that is full of tres and passing remarks.

These stories might be a little cliché to you, but I guess this is what life in MSU is. Entering this university will always be banded together with so many highs and lows. Still, at the end of the day, one thing is always for sure—YOU CAN DO IT, just like me who is now a graduating student, and just like those whose names are seen in the hall of fame of MSU.
