Reapers harvest historic team and individual title in women’s table tennis tourney

Carving a new legacy, the College of Agriculture (COA) Reapers dominated the women’s table tennis competition, claiming both team and individual titles in a historic performance to clinch the gold, sweeping the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) Vanguards 2-0 at the College of Fisheries Building on October 13.

Seizing their moment, the Reapers’ powerful duo of Angelika Fernandez and Lady Caderon led the charge in the doubles match, while Khyla Peniero sealed the deal with a decisive singles victory.

Despite having a twice-to-beat advantage, the Vanguards struggled to capitalize on it and ultimately settled for the first runner-up position, while the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) fought hard to claim the bronze medal.

Reflecting on their journey, Fernandez shared, "At first, there was a lot of pressure, but we trusted our teammates and focused on teamwork. In the end, we rose to the top and secured the gold."

The COA’s dominance extended beyond the women's team event, as Lance Azcarraga delivered a flawless performance in the men's individual event, going undefeated to secure another gold.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles, Kristel Mae Eduave of CBAA shone brightly, capturing the title with a perfect 3-0 record. In the men's team championship, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) Wizards swept the College of Engineering (COE) ASTEEGS 2-0, capitalizing on their twice-to-beat advantage to secure the gold, while COE settled for silver.

With these impressive victories, the Reapers firmly established themselves as a table tennis powerhouse, marking a new era in the sport.
