Pinta Okir paints university landmark in new look; sparks MSUan spirit anew

Updated: Jan 14, 2023

NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK. MSU-Gensan Pinta Okir members splashed meaningful paint to one of the landmarks in the university.

Through the adroit hands of Mindanao State University-General Santos City Pinta Okir Visual Arts Guild members, the I LOVE MSU GENSAN landmark has now its new look following the start of a new year.

The first project of the said organization for the year 2023 wowed university students, garnering hundreds of social media interactions. "I love the details of their painting. I am happy that I got to witness the newly painted landmark in my last year here at MSU," expressed Francis Severino, a 4th year student at MSU-GSC, in an interview after he had visited the notable sight.

Members of the art guild urged the students and the community as well to take some photos in there together with their friends and families. They have also expressed their utmost gratitude to the people behind the success of this project. "This project wouldn't be successful if not with the support of our beloved Chancellor, JD, Usman D. Aragasi, PPD director, Randy P. Asturias and our own adviser, Sir Nerio E. Ilisan," their official page wrote.

Story behind the new look

Ruby Jane Facurib, the incumbent president of Pinta Okir, shared that the design embodies the cultures and history of MSU-Gensan. "The I LOVE MSU design is an overlay of the Panolong pattern of the Maranao - it is a symbol of power and status, a good relation to the MSU Gensan's standing in academics and other great events," she explained.

"The "Gensan" however is designed in a fun and quirky way to highlight the colors, highlights and history of Gensan City, the home of the Champions- the MSU Gensan's homing city," she further stated.
