OPAPRU chief underscores strong alliance with MSU in promoting peace; Reminds graduates of value of helping others

Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. emphasized the strong relationship between MSU and his office in promoting peace in Mindanao, where he also reminded the graduates of the importance of helping others for the common good, July 5.

"Although OPAPRU and MSU are two different institutions, our goals are the same, and that is to bring lasting peace and sustainable development to the country, mostly in Mindanao. This peace should not only benefit Filipinos today but also in the future," Sec. Galvez stated, noting that Mindanao has been viewed as a conflict breeding area, although peace and security have vastly improved.

Galvez affirmed that calls for peace will embed itself in the bedrock of society, if not preventing situations of conflict effectively.

Gracing the 45th Commencement Exercises of MSU-GenSan, he instilled in the minds of graduates the need for more good citizens in communities to bring forth lasting change, essentially for the good of all those around them.

"Wherever you may go, you must be an advocate of peace and shine your light on the people around you. Being an advocate of peace doesn't mean you have to go on the battlefield or perform peace initiatives," he pointed out.

Moreover, as an Eisenhower fellow in the USA, Sec. Galvez shared a saying by General Dwight Eisenhower to inculcate into the hearts of graduates, stating that "No matter how simple your actions may be, as long as you create conditions where genuine peace and sustainable development can prosper in your own families and communities, that is more than enough."

The secretary also revealed his secret on how to be successful, drawing from his own experience as the OPAPRU chief.

"The key to your success is on how you can develop yourself to be able to inspire others," he stressed.

Galvez expressed that he is confident that the MSU graduates are well-prepared enough to become an instrument of positive change and  are now ready to make a meaningful impact.

In his closing statement, Sec. Galvez urges the graduates to unite and remember the genuine intent of helping others and helping the country for the welfare of the general public.
