Updated: Jun 18, 2023

Around 200 seedlings of Narra and Ilang-Ilang combined were planted at the vacant lot beside Mindanao State University General Santos City (MSU-GSC)- PHIVOLCS as part of the "PUNO NG PAG-ASA: Tree Planting Activity," spearheaded by Office of the Students Affairs (OSA), June 14.

The said activity is in partnership with Seniors' Club 2023, Physical Plant Division (PPD), the National Service Training Program (NSTP), the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) organizations, and the plantlets donor, which is the College of Agriculture (COA).

"Tungod ani mabawasan ang init, dapat aring event ma-maintain ni kag 'di masayang na development. Nasugdan na nato so dapat palaparon, ipadayon pa,” Seniors' Club officer Jethro Montero emphasized.

Montero also shared that he is ecstatic to be part of the event, for this has utilized the said location for tree planting not only to preserve nature and lessen the heat but to become the future forest park, which could be a rendezvous for students to bond and relax.

With hopes and prayers

"Kayo ang first batch na magtatanim sa area na ito. Samahan natin ng dasal, pagmamahal, at dapat i-cultivate natin with hopes and prayers na magsusurvive ito na parang MSUans," OSA Director Rhumer S. Lañojan expressed to the students for pioneering the activity.

Lañojan added that students should anchor the planting with prayers and hopes for the plants, like the MSUans, to survive.

Lañojan even noted that Chancellor JD Usman Aragasi was the one who initiated a massive and sustainable tree-growing event that will serve as a future forest park for all MSUans.

Chancellor Aragasi expressed in his talk that he is proud of the achievements of the university, highlighting that the school is the second most preferred campus in the MSU system based on the recent SASE results.
