Acknowledging the efforts and success of each athlete, performer, and student of Mindanao State University – General Santos City (MSU-GSC), the closing program of Campus Youth Sportsfest (CYS) 2024 commenced inside the University Gymnasium, November 17.

With the help of partnerships and sponsors from the Office of Secretary of Education Sonny Angara, Office of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, and Office of Senator Pilar Juliana “Pia” Cayetano, CYS 2024 was organized for three days with six sports events along with MSU Got Talent and Dance Unlimited competitions.

Prof. Norman Ralph Isla, Overall Event Coordinator, expressed his gratitude to all the committee and people behind the successful implementation of CYS 2024.

“We have been through a lot of process and negotiation to continue the Sports Fest 2024. Another one, of course, I would like to extend a thank you to our partners in our non-sport events, including, of course, the other committee chairs,” he stated.

Isla emphasized the challenges that each committee experienced in implementing CYS 2024, particularly in finance, and he acknowledged the importance of handling schedules that cannot disrupt the education of MSUans.

“OVCAA and OVCSA are always clashing in the council. Because, if I am the only one to follow, we will have intrams the whole semester. It's okay for me to do that. But, of course, our academic community will not be able to afford to wait for the whole year. That's why, we hope you understand why this is the way of scheduling. It is because, another one, the budget is really late. And, of course, we need to maximize it from time to time on how we can increase it,” he expressed.

Prof. Isla also reminded everyone of the importance of voting for the upcoming election.

“But, remember, whoever is the sponsor or the senator. It's not their money, but money of the people. I just want to remind you, sila lang ‘yung naging vessel or an instrument of how this will be given to us. But, always remember you have the power to vote,” he appended.

Fun Run & Zumba

Employees and students of MSU-GSC gathered earlier at Sarimanok for the anticipated Fun Run event, marking the last day of CYS 2024.

Christian Josh Sales, from the College of Engineering (COE) amazed everyone after surpassing other runners in the Fun Run competition - Students Category, claiming the first place..

“Unang inisip ko was to finish strong lang kasi I was not able to train for a week kasi puro bike lang training namin and I didn’t warm up well sa starting kasi I was late,” he stated.

He then received P5000.00 as his prize for accomplishing the run.

“I will use the money for my baon and for emergency use money po,” he spoke.

Moreover, all runners received cash prizes and consolation prizes as a form of recognition for their participation in the said run.

Additionally, Engr. Steve Anthony Lim, also from COE and the adviser of Bagwis, crossed first in the finish line for the Faculty and Staff Category.

After the closing program, the event officially concluded with a photo opportunity of the participants, faculties and staff, and organizers, and the event ended with the giving of honorarium for the student-athletes and performers,
