MSUan shines in first-ever FTRC 'Battle of The Brains' cup; COEd's Castañares vies for semis



"I did what I could. I utilized all the information I had."


These were the words uttered by Ellemer Rose Castañares, a fourth year BSED Biology Student, as she emerged into the Semifinal round of the first-ever "Battle of The Brains" quiz bowl spearheaded by the Falculan Twins' Review Center (FTRC).


She was one of 55 out of 332 participants in 62 participating schools, who will advance to the next round of the competition.


In an interview with Bagwis, she had mixed emotions, noting that she also felt compelled to emerge victorious herself.


"I felt happy yet pressured po. Happy knowing that out of hundreds may nakapasulok na MSUan pero pressured din cause I felt like I have to win it po," Castañares said.


The BSED student said that they answered hundreds of questions, including several days of reviews which are part of their preparations in the said quiz.


"Thankfully, some of the questions during the contest were somehow related to what we studied. Those were really helpful for me to advance to the next round," she added.


"Review sa gabi for the first two days of po and face-to-face review for the remaining three days. We answered 600 questions per day minsan nakakahigit pa."


She acknowledged areas for improvement while emphasizing satisfaction with their efforts to provide the best performance.


"I would say I performed satisfactorily during the contest day. There are learning areas and skills that I have to improve, but overall I am satisfied na po," Castañares described.
