In her speech, Ms. Ruhama L. Gomez, Director of the Center for Women’s Studies, highlighted Proclamation No. 27 and Republic Act 6949, which officially designates March as Women's Role in History Month and March 8 as National Women’s Day.
"This celebration is not just for women but for everyone in our community," Gomez stated. "We have a series of activities lined up that promote inclusivity, awareness, and action."
Among the planned activities are "Dugong MSUan," a bloodletting drive on March 11 organized by the Faculty Union, inviting community members to donate blood and support local health needs.
On March 12, "Serbisyo Para Kay Juana" will offer a livelihood training session where participants can learn to create household products, empowering them with skills for financial independence.
Moreover, "Run for Peace and Equality", a fun run aimed at raising funds for girls in this city, will take place on April 2, reinforcing the university's commitment to supporting vulnerable community members.
More GAD corners
A significant highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the establishment of more GAD corners across the campus.
The director confirmed that additional GAD corners will be created in various colleges and buildings to promote gender awareness and advocacy.
These spaces will be supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance (OVCAF) which will supply materials.
According to Gomez, the first GAD corner, located in the Y Building, was made possible through the efforts of Alternate GAD Focal Person, Dr. Alma Celestia V. Aguja.
She also emphasized the importance of legal protections for women, citing Republic Act 11313 (Safe Spaces Act) and Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act).
The director urged community members to report any forms of harassment or violence, reinforcing that everyone has a role in creating a safer environment.
“Taking action helps protect not just yourself, but others as well–whether it happens at home, in public spaces, at school, or online. Know that you are not alone,” she said.
The collaborative efforts of various departments were also recognized, including the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) and the Supreme Student Council (SSC).
Gomez encouraged all members of the community to engage in the planned activities, fostering a culture of respect and support for gender equality and inclusivity on campus.
