According to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Dr. Norman Ralph Isla, it is very important to celebrate and acknowledge the time when the university was founded and the people behind it.

“It's like celebrating your birthday, it's commemorating the day of your conception, which it is a symbol or a day to remember that one university or one entity is being established,” he said.Isla also added that the significant event is for more than just the locality of MSU-General Santos.“It is a spur of dream, it's a beautiful beginning of something greater–and that is MSU,” he stated.

On the other hand, Jelea Magallanes, 1st year student of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science emphasized the importance of students knowing the history of the institution.

“The importance niya is [to] remind us kung unsa ang gipang-agian sa mga nag-start sa MSU mismo, sa nagdala sa MSU here sa Gensan," she said.

She also added how important it is to acknowledge the initiative of the pioneers of the university to give people the opportunity to study here.

Moreover, Dr. Isla stated that though MSU-GSC celebrates its foundation day in the month of October, the campus still shows support and pays tribute to this remarkable event.

“Well, it is a system-wide event. We're in 11 campuses and two extension campuses of the Mindanao State University system, celebrating entirely. We are celebrating and commemorating this big day," he said.

One of the exciting events arranged for this week-long celebration included the annual Rawaten Cultural Extravaganza streamed via Facebook live of MSU-Main page, where MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno declared that September 2 be a rest day for all constituents, in commemoration of the founding anniversary.
