MSU Batch '18 Sinaglaya expresses dismay over yearbook fiasco

Updated: Jun 8

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, June 7 – Numerous errors in the yearbook of Mindanao State University's (MSU) Class of 2018, known as Batch Sinaglaya, have triggered an outpouring of frustration and anger from graduates who took to Facebook to share photos of their recently claimed yearbooks with missing data and photos.

In a series of posts, several alumni highlighted issues ranging from missing personal information, academic achievements, and affiliations to mismatched names and the absence of promised glamour shots.

This comes after MSU Darangen, the official yearbook of the university, announced on their Facebook page last June 5th that the batch's yearbook could finally be claimed, ending a six-year wait.

In a Facebook post, Jharvie Dwayne Molana, an alumnus from the said batch, called upon Darangen to do a better job.

"This yearbook is significant to us as it represents our years of hard work at Pamantasang Mindanao," he emphasized.

In several cases, some graduates were also unable to claim their yearbooks due to their names being excluded from the masterlist.

MJ Galo-Abayan, another member of batch Sinaglaya, shared in a separate post that she was unable to claim her yearbook despite paying the required fee six years ago because her name was omitted from the list.

"Tanan sa akong circle of friends pag college kay wala sad sa listahan," she stated.

Abayan also questioned the purpose of their payment, stating that they were informed the 750-peso fee would cover a black-and-white yearbook.

Another graduate, Vanjo B. Salinda, also expressed his disappointment, sharing a photo from the yearbook that only contained his name and degree with the caption, "You failed us, MSU Darangen Official."

"I don’t care about the awards and achievements na wala nasulat. It doesn’t matter. I just feel sad for those who sought sponsorship just to pay MSU Darangen Official pero mali-mali kag kulang-kulang gid,” he said.

Salinda also pointed out that their parents worked hard to pay for the yearbook fee.

MSU Darangen issued an apology last May 4th for the delay in releasing the yearbooks for the graduates of batch 2018 and 2019.

The situation has sparked calls for a formal explanation and response from those responsible.

Both the MSU administration and the yearbook committee have yet to issue a formal statement.
