PRECISE CONVEYANCE. MGDS President Jefferson Quipit precisely delivered a message what has in store for MSUan debaters through
their 1st General Assembly in 14 years at Regional Science Research Center.
After 14 years of interstice, the Mindanao State University-General Santos Debate Society (MGDS) united its debaters for this academic year through Kamustahan: 1st General Assembly on December 14 at the Regional Science Research Center, Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC).
According to the incumbent MGDS President, Jefferson Quipit, the primary purpose of conducting the event is to physically meet the 78 members of the organization for the first time. He has also discussed the future plans and administrative restructure of MGDS after its former president resigned.
Quipit also shared a personal anecdote on how the MGDS tagline was made, prioritizing the essence of togetherness in debating and public speaking. "One thing that we had a concession [upon], the word 'together' was kept and was never replaced when the pioneering members brainstormed for a tagline. Poetic lang siya," he quoted.
Meanwhile, the proposal of Constitution and By-Laws amendments was discussed by Liam Joshua Taculod, MGDS Vice President for Public Relations and Logistics, pegging to add a laddered system of membership to its members, open membership for applicants, and administrative office reforms. The financial report of the organization was presented by Joash Dalimbang during the program.
The organization's adviser, Sir Monlouie M. Sorzano, took the lead in the oathtaking of the officers and newly-recruited members.
It was announced in the assembly that MGDS is interested in participating in debate tournaments, such as the unnamed British Parliamentary debate tournament hosted by MSU-IIT Debate Varsity (MIDV).
