Mentors’ Dumangas, Rodriguez smash prevailing victory over Anglers in women's table tennis doubles clash

In a gradually heating-up fashion, the College of Education (COED) Mentors paddlers Ria Dumangas and Kim Rodriguez commanded the College of Fisheries (COF) Anglers in their women’s table tennis doubles match, staging a strong comeback after dropping the first set to win 3-1 and keep their championship aspirations alive.

Exerting significant effort to gain an early advantage, the Anglers fought hard to build a sizable lead, with Kaye Benigay and Jacqueline Marie Santos driving momentum against the Mentors, finishing the first set at 11-7.

Motivated to make a comeback, the COED paddlers flaunted their serves with accuracy, dominating the next two sets with scores of 11-6 and 11-7, ultimately taking the lead against the COF.

In a classic close match, both teams battled fiercely for the crucial set, with Anglers aiming to force a tie and extend the match. However, the Mentors held their ground, with Ria Dumangas delivering a pivotal smash that sealed the victory with a final score of 10-12.

Mentors’ Rodriguez and Dumangas expressed their goal for the remainder of the tournament as playing it safe, despite feeling nervous. They emphasized the importance of making the right moves to secure victories and maintain their hopes for the championship.

As the tournament advances, the pair are grateful for the crucial support that they receive from their fellow Mentors, stating that it helps them feel more at ease despite the pressure during the games, allowing them to achieve victory in their opening match of this year's competition.
