To impart knowledge and expertise amongst young campus journalists, MSU-GenSan Bagwis has been invited to have a partnership with Glan Central Integrated SPED Center (GCISC) through the conduct of School-Based Training Workshop on Journalism for Selected Campus Journalists in Grades 4-10 held at Glan, Sarangani Province, January 13.

Nine selected editorial staff members from Bagwis have been chosen to be one of the resource speakers in the said training, which further intensified the goals of GCISC for having a Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) curriculum.

These staffs namely Herkurt Tamba, Leonard Tucjayao, Lynxter Gybriel Leaño, Mia Dorothy Marcos, Kimbian Lim, Niel Zsun John Vega, Louise Gabrielle Abing, Adrian Joven, and Kevin Asombrado have upskilled more than 80 writers of GCISC.

As a result, the campus journalists of the said school conveyed their experiences, emphasizing that the said workshop could help them win in competitions.

“Today was overwhelming yet very fulfilling, kay today dili lang na tackle sa amoa unsaon pagsulat, kun dili natudluan sad mi paano magsulat og article na effective, labaw na katong ”revolutionary format” na gi-tudlo ni Sir Leonard. Maka-ingon gyud ko na, it’s indeed revolutionary, especially sa akoa na naga write na for quite some time og naa nay prior knowledge sa basics sa pagsulat, pero naga seek gyud og mga tips para mas ma-develop pa ang akoang pagsulat,” Aida Adelah Naraga, junior high school writer, said.

Moreover, an elementary participant named Brielle Damalien Wadingan shared her insights in the workshop, where she highlighted the knowledge that she acquired, making it useful for her to improve her writing skills.

On the other hand, Mrs. Lodgin L. Leaño, GCISC SPJ Coordinator, acknowledged the efforts and competence of Bagwis staff for the hour-long drive just to reach Glan and teach the young writers enthusiastically.

The said training workshop is expected to help the GCISC writers acquire new knowledge to help them in future competitions.
