Showing off his wits and physique, Angelo Buenavista from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities clinched the Mr. MSU 2023 crown after 6 years of the said college’s last win beating the other 13 candidates held at Veranza Mall, November 15.
In an interview, he emphasized that his win is for beneficiaries in his advocacy, noting that he joined the pageant not for personal objectives but with the purpose of helping the community through his “BATA, PAGBASA PARA SA PAGASA” advocacy.
“I wanna offer this to the beneficiaries of my advocacy because I'm not here for personal objective but [really] here for a purpose, and I think that is what I hold on to tonight—my advocacy, the purpose, and the cause that is close to my heart," Buenavista stated.
However, in the same interview, Buenavista also highlighted his Pasarella and academic training, which was focused on his advocacy building, which equipped him to become prepared for the said event, also garnering the Best in Advocacy award.
"Right now, a lot of pageant goers have plenty of advocacies, but their advocacies are not really that relevant, so we focused on making our advocacies relevant to the community and to our beneficiaries, especially the minority, the children who do not have access to reading materials and books, the reason why we have low efficiency rate when it comes to reading comprehension," he explained.
On the other hand, Jeff Lagrosa, Miss Amazing Queen 2016-South Cotabato, did not expect to be picked as one of the judges for the said university pageant, citing it as a surreal moment for Lagrosa.
“I was just watching this before, it was not part of my imagination to be a judge. I am very grateful to the SSC for inviting me and for the great show. You have produced such high caliber candidates,” Jeff explained.
The title holder further said that the contestants were aware of the situations in the institutions because their answers were timely and relevant during the casual interview.
“When it comes to the issue and the purpose of this pageant, it is about inclusion, gender equality and I think men should be recognized too because for the past few years it’s always Ms. MSU, so it’s time now for Mr. MSU,” Lagrosa said.

Meanwhile, Buenavista will represent MSU-GenSan in the upcoming Mr. and Ms. MSU System Athletic Association (MSUSAA) in December in Marawi City, together with the reigning Ms. MSU 2023, Cyrille Mae Marcilla.
“I expect that it mas— will be more rigid in acad training and advocacies as well. I'm representing MSU-GENSAN, the pressure and responsibility on my shoulders now are so huge and heavy and I really gotta deliver the goods in Marawi. I hope the stars will align and I will really work hard for it. That's what I can assure. I will work hard for the MSU-Gensan community," the advocate and titleholder emphasized,” he stated.
Moreover, Joco Contado from the College of Education was hailed as Mr. MSU Academic Ambassador, while Rhudje L. Piyaw from CSSH claimed the title of Mr. MSU Sports, Culture, and Arts Ambassador.
