CHED Chairperson visits MSU-Gensan for faculty and student dialogue; highlights importance of free education in schools

Mindanao State University - General Santos City (MSU-GSC) welcomed the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero "Popoy" E. De Vera III for his dialogue with the faculty, college deans, NSTP advisers and students at the University Gymnasium, September 28.


The dialogue focused on the programs, scholarship, and services of the CHED, and inquiries on how to access these services, especially for students who face problems in their educational journey.

De Vera III highlighted in his dialogue the importance of free education in schools, allowing every Filipino to have an opportunity to have education that can help in their future.


"Marami namang pera ang pamahalaan, bakit di natin ilaan sa pag-aaral ng kabataan? Because after all, lahat ng pag-aaral ay nagpapakita na the more educated you are, the better the opportunity to get a profession," he stated.


Juvy Jean Flores, 1st year BS Mathematics student, said she learned that CHED is committed in improving the education system through funding 180 million pesos for College of Medicine.


"Free higher education, as a student who value education nagtatak jud ni sa akoa kay dili man tanan may chance maka eskwela tas libre pa jud and the government has the resources to support it so gina value jud nako ni nga opportunity", she stated.


According to Jessa Mae Acharon, 1st year BS Education in Mathematics student, said that she was inspired by the answers of the speaker, and was motivated because she could relate to the stories of the CHED chairperson.


"There's one question for those students that currently in their no choice courses and sir Popoy said ‘mag shift ka kung hindi mo gusto’.  The point that he’s really sharing this thing directly to students makes everyone enlightened especially those students who really need this words", she added.


Moreover, Argo Canilang, 1st year BS HRM student, learned the true purpose of promoting a free higher education in the Philippines and the reasons beside this law, and also by enlightening on education and gain a inspirational words on the speaker in walking to the right path of college.


In the dialogue, JD. Chancellor Usman D. Aragasi, MPA and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) Norman Ralph Isla, DComm, were present and served as moderators for the event.


According to VCSA, the CHED granted the College of Medicine 180 million pesos through the Institutional Development and Innovation Grant (IDIG) and the Leading the Advancement of Knowledge in Agriculture and Sciences (LAKAS) program for its advanced equipments for the medical facilities.


Th event is In accordance with the memorandum order 080-24C, which states all college deans and directors of student affairs and services are instructed to allow and to inform all NSTP coordinators to let their students join the event, alongside interested officials, faculty and staff.
