'Batch Naraniag!' - Seniors' Club GA settles class 2024 batch name, club fee drops to 300

After several voting procedures on six batch name suggestions, the class of 2024 settled on the local word: Naraniag, an Ilocano term that means brightly shining or giving out a burst of light.

The other remaining choices for batch names were: Binulawanon (Gold), Sanghaya (Honor and Integrity), Matabtaba (Survivor), Madasigon (Courage), and Sambisig (One Vision).

The word Naraniag was suggested by Louie Jay Toledo, a College of Agriculture student, prior to the selection process.

The votation was conducted last Seniors' Club General Assembly at the University Gymnasium, March 20.

FIRST CHOICE

Initially, the graduating batch chose Sanghaya. However, it was later rejected due to concerns that other universities already used the same name for their batch.

Sanghaya had been previously adopted by institutions such as Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU) - IBED Class 2024 and Mindanao State University (MSU) - Marawi College of Medicine Class 2027.

A second round of voting was conducted to reconsider everyone's vote, and eventually, the batch name Naraniag won over Sanghaya.

Princes Joannha Isla, Seniors' Club President, said that both Naraniag and Sanghaya were her favorite choices among the suggested batch names.

"Batch Naraniag and Sanghaya were my personal favorites during the selection of Top batch names. It was a tough decision out of 19 batch name suggestions from different colleges, the SCO even voted twice for the Top batch names," Isla said.

CLUB FEE DROP

The Seniors' Club initially set the graduation fee at 400 pesos, as detailed in the budget breakdown posted on their official Facebook page. However, after numerous complaints during the assembly, it was reduced to 300 pesos.

Isla stated that the reason for the fee drop was due to the removal of the 'Pastil Fest' project of the club and the reconsideration of the job coaching and job fair.

"The 60 pesos allocation for Pastil Fest was abolished after dividing the house, 351 votes over 278. The fee was also reduced for Job coaching and Job fair since it will be a one-day event," Isla said.

The club fee will be collected on March 25, 26, and 27, and April 1 and 2 at the Office of Students Affairs (OSA) Building from 8 am to 5 pm.
