Bagwis trains young scribes; promotes against disinformation thru YNFORM

To instill new learnings and mitigate disinformation, Bagwis together with Youth-led Network for the Right to Information (YNFORM) spearheaded a journalism symposium to train the students of Banisil National High School (BNHS) as part of the Batch Project Quipit held last December 2.

Selected young writers engaged in various events under the journalism field to enhance their writing skills and learn new techniques in news, feature, sports, editorial, editorial cartooning, photojournalism, video editing, and layouting.

"Lingaw siya and entertaining kaayo s'ya kay imbes na naa ko sa balay ma bored, naa ko diri para maminaw and mas na-improve pa akong writing skills kay daghan kaayo ko ug natun-an uy. Sure jud na,"Ayyesha Ampatuan, one of the participants quoted.

On the other hand, YNFORM discussed various topics on fighting disinformation including getting reliable sources for a factual article, being an advocate for information skills literacy and other areas in which the students acquired new insights on how to lessen fake news.

"Nabal-an namo ang about sa fact check like asa mi magkuha ug paano mi magkuha or reliable resources para dili ma ingnan ug like mali among mga information na iingon," Rainy Jean Zapanta emphasized.

YNFORM has been resonating its mission to ease the sudden spike of fake news especially in social media in which BNHS has been chosen as one of its beneficiaries to undergo the said training.

Meanwhile, Cathylene Bulado, the project head, stressed that she was satisfied with the positive feedback received, describing that the students were able to grasp the topics' thought.

"Considering na most of the students we're not really affiliated in the official student publication of BNHS or even engage themselves in Journalism and still got placed and won awards was an implication na our lecturers during the Journalism Symposium session delivered their roles well," Bulado explained.

The said university publication also conducted a mini-contest and gave various awards to the top three best outputs of the aforementioned event.
