Back in Action: MSU-Legends Football Club host successful alumni friendly in consecutive Intramural season

In alignment with the celebration of the institution's 51st founding anniversary, the MSU-Legends Football Club organized a series of 11-aside fun games, featuring non-competitive matches where alumni and former varsity players took to the pitch for their football comeback at the University Football Field, October 13.

Not forgetting his athletic roots, Engineer Randy Asturias brought this assembly to life, having first introduced the event during last year’s Intramurals with only two participating teams. However, thanks to effective dissemination of information and thorough preparation, this year’s event saw an impressive five teams compete.

Each team was inducted under a specific color—blue, red, white, green, and orange—comprising football enthusiasts and professors, with over 15 members from the institution on each team.

“Kasi alam mo naman na once na soccer player, talagang hahanapin ‘yung laro,” said Engr. Asturias, who helped make this friendly match possible for MSU graduates and faculty. He also emphasized that one of the main goals of the event is to "unite younger and older alumni."

This all-day event featured scrimmages of participating teams in a round-robin format, with the white team from the College of Agriculture alumni emerging as the most successful team among the participants with three wins.

“First of all, I’m so happy because all my teammates [in COA] and fellow alumni, we played together along with past athletes from other colleges,” said Anthony Felesilda, a BS in Agronomy graduate from the Class of 2023-2024, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to return and play again at MSU-GenSan.

He also commended the initiative of his fellow alumni for making these friendly games possible.

“Thanks to MSU alumni and sponsors for organizing this one-day league. I feel amazed to see my teammates from our time in Intramurals,” expressed Felisilda.

As the event enters its second year, Engr. Asturias is determined to continue this annual gathering of former MSU football athletes. “Iyong mga alumni natin even the current students will look up na when they graduate, makalaro pa rin sila,” he shared, noting that he himself is one of the participants in the fun games, repping for the orange team delegating the College of Engineering.

For their future plans, MSU-Legends Football aims to host a tournament exclusively for MSUans, providing university football athletes and alums with a premium opportunity to play the game.
