ASTEEGS own Academic Night; keeps #i2tuloy battle cry alive


WEARINESS NUMBED INTO TRIUMPH. ASTEEGS’ Team Quizzers Yusra Hana M. Ambia, Lance Harvey C. Gonzales, John Romar B. Lademora, and Alexander James L. Ulbata smiled in victory after they received the gold medal for Team Quiz as part of the Academic Night in MSU-Gensan 2022 Intramurals, University Gymnasium, November 23.


Blazed with the motivation to make their tagline #i2tuloy happen this 2022 Intramurals, the College of Engineering (ASTEEGS) pulled off gold in both Mathematics Individual and Team Quiz categories during the Academic Night of Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC) Intramurals 2022, University Gymnasium, November 23.


Karl John Fernandez of COE garnered 9, 10, and 16 points for easy, average, and difficult rounds, respectively, which made him the 1st placer in Mathematics Individual Quiz Bee. The School of Graduate Studies (Masters) secured the 1st runner-up title, while the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Wizards) hailed 2nd runner-up.


Asked about how he prepared for the academic night, Fernandez bared that he started to review the past lessons and recalled the basics and concepts from various reference materials. According to him, he does not entirely rely on memorization but instead understands the concepts behind them and how they were derived.


“To ensure that I already understand the topic, I started to solve several problems related to each topic and try to solve each as fast as possible for the competition is a race against the clock,” Fernandez quoted.


Meanwhile, ASTEEGS inched a one-point gap from the Senior High School Department (Legends) in the Team Quiz category, 75-74. The Legends and Masters came 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively.


The COE grabbed silver in the Language and Literature category as the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vanguards) dominated the quiz while the Wizards bagged the bronze.


For the Science category, the Legends secured the 1st rank followed by the College of Agriculture (Reapers), and succeeded by the Wizards.


Moreover, the College of Medicine secured the top spot in the General Information Category, while the Wizards clinched 2nd place followed by the College of Law (Jurists).


TEAM STANDINGS UPDATED


ASTEEGS persisted on top in the team standings after the Academic Night which make them continue to hope for their battle cry to transpire. Based on the partial and unofficial results as of 12:03 am on November 24, the ASTEEGS tallied 371.25 overall points since the Day 0 of 2022 Intramurals against its rival, the College of Education (COEd), with 313 points earned.

The Legends garnered 269.50 points, whereas the Reapers got 268.25 points and the Vanguards earned 249.50 points. Both the tycoons and wizards tied for a score of 200.50 points. The Anglers, Masters, Jurists, and the COM produced 135, 85.50, 55, and 37 points, respectively.


The university will have its Literary Night on the 4th day of the Intramurals in which this night can be one of the biggest deciding factors as to what college the championship this year will go.
