The fiery ASTEEG spirit of the College of Engineering (COE) successfully forged two golds in the men’s and women’s table tennis with an unblemished win record throughout the tournament after a victorious championship campaign against College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) Vanguards at the Office of Student Affairs Court, October 7.
The COE men’s team championship win was a redemption story from their last Intramurals’ silver-medal finish after a disappointing loss against the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM) in the finals, who surprisingly failed to even have a semis appearance this year.
Sweeping all sets clean, ASTEEG singles A bet Mart Deo Mantawil and doubles John Paul Bagnol and King Clarence Benemerito completely demoralized Vanguards with Mantawil even pinning CSSH representative Jedz Harry Pumares to an 11-1 separation in second set.
Meanwhile, the women’s tournament proved to be a more thrilling showdown, with a singles B deciding match, where COE’s Kamelle Althea Bantulo took control of the game only letting Vanguards’ Michaella Bagnol get a hold of a single set to ultimately claim their back-to-back gold.
Vanguards already had the game in their hands after clinching a doubles win through Raya Dagohoy and Joliza Rosanto against ASTEEGS’ Keyla Abegail Dacayo and Mary Garce Marinas, despite initially losing in the Singles A versus COE’s Rona Mae Kismundo. However, CSSH failed to maintain their momentum until the end.
Aiming for an overall championship in this year’s Intramurals and the University Golden Anniversary, the COE table tennis team is glad to have contributed to their college’s fight for a winsTHREEak.
“Dako jod ang relevance sa among daog kay Golden Anniversary tapos naka gold medal pod mi. Dako pod siya nga tabang sa engineering para champion na pod ulit,” ASTEEGS’ Mantawil expressed.
