100 student organizations earn OSA recognition; VCSA Isla urges student leaders to have accountability, innovativeness, excellence

A record-breaking 100 student organizations of MSU-GenSan were able to receive recognition from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) for Academic Year 2024-2025 at the AVR-Library, in which then the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA), Dr. Norman Ralph Isla, urged the student leaders to possess accountability, excellence, and innovativeness in serving their constituents, September 25.

“Because of the modern times, we are actually tempted to do bad things because of these corrupt practices, na meron ‘yung ating mga elders. But I believe in the power of the youth, of the students, especially the student organizations, in shaping the next generation and the new generation of leaders that we hope for for the nation,” Dr. Isla emphasized on the importance of the mentioned three characteristics in being a leader.

Moreover, the VCSA stressed the significance of being a recognized organization wherein they will have the authority to collect, to be endorsed, and to own an important legal entity.

These rights, after being recognized, will make the organization run for one academic year through the legality of the organization and funds collected from its members.

“Meron na kayong leverage na i-endorse kayo ng Office of Student Affairs and Services and Office of the Vice Chancellor for Students Affairs, kung meron kayong aaplayan na mga award outside. Meron mag-eendorse sa inyo external na kapag aaplayan na mga most outstanding organization,” Dr. Isla said for having the rights of organizations to be endorsed.

Furthermore, the VCSA discussed the importance of gaining experiences and progressing in order to acquire more credentials, which are necessary for the organizations to be perceived as credible.

“The world now is the world of compliance, laging [may] certification. Hindi na naniniwala ang tao sa sabi-sabi lang, kailangan may papel. That’s the challenge of today,” VCSA said.

A nudge in the right direction

“No organization is perfect. But, once you are accountable and know that you are really for service, you will never go wrong,” Dr. Norman advised all the organizations.

The VCSA challenged the commitment of all the organizations, not just being accountable but to be the seal of models of innovation.

“As organizations, we challenge you to transform all of your transactions gradually into online and e-processes,” Dr. Norman stated.

In addition, the VCSA reminded the organizations to be diligent as leaders.

“As leaders, you lead even the most intelligent people. Take on the challenge and enjoy the rest of the year. Put your discourse properly; we have the right avenues to talk to. Take on these more projects to go, more take on the students. Always remember that the students are the reasons why the university is working hard.”
